Permaculture Solutions Hits Africa! (November 18, 2008)
From May - November 2008 Permaculture Solutions' Dan Palmer had the pleasure of working with well-known permaculture teacher, writer and designer Rosemary Morrow in Africa. After two incredible months running two Permaculture Design Courses at Strawberry Fields Ecolodge in Southern Ethiopia, we headed to Sabina Home and Boarding School in Southern Uganda. After a few weeks of teaching and designing with Rosemary, Dan stayed on to help begin the Sabina Permaculture Project. Working with Amanda Cuyler (Australia) and then Mike Cloutier (Canada) we created the first batch of designs for the site and implemented a large mandala vegetable garden, over 265 metres of swale and planted out 100 fruit trees. Check out the project blog here.

Permablitz Introduction to Permaculture Course (March 2008)
On the weekend of March 29th and 30th 2008 we are supporting Permablitz.net to run a two-day introduction to permaculture course. The venue is Port Phillip Eco Centre in Melbourne's St Kilda and it will be a great course, with facilitators including Permablitz veterans Paul Fogarty, Adam Fenderson, Kim Tyson, Kim Glasgow, Jessie Price and Dan Palmer. Contact us or visit Permablitz.net now to book into the course and to launch yourself into permaculture design and meet others doing the same!

Permablitz Article in The Age
On July 17 2007 Melbourne's The Age newspaper featured Permaculture Solutions' own Dan Palmer in an article about the Permablitzes we helped start. Permablitzes are days on which communities come together to work on implementing permaculture systems and food gardens in people's back (and front!) yards. Permaculture Solutions supports Permablitzes as a community initiative. Check out the article and get yourself along to a permablitz soon - they are a great example of how much fun permaculture can be.

Older news: The Permaculture Forest is Launched (May 2007)
Over the last few weeks, Permaculture Solutions has been busy implementing a design we've completed for a beautiful 15-acre property in South Gippsland, Victoria. The site has been named The Permaculture Forest and we've been working with both a 12 and a 20-ton excavator to install:
- Over 650 metres of swales which are about 5 metres wide
- About nine ponds, dams or other above-ground water storages
- Over 700 trees including casuarinas, acacias, tagasastes and many more, with an initial focus on windbreak and swale support species
- A large main and grain crop terrace
- A diversion drain bringing runoff from the road into a goose pond at the top of the site which will allow fertigation, or gravity feeding nutrified water to points of use

News (March 5, 2007)
Permaculture Solutions is currently experiencing a huge demand for full-scale design consultancy and we are doing everything we can to meet the challenge without having to refuse any jobs. Our current commitments include:
- Full design and implementation of comprehensive permaculture system on 3/4-acre suburban site in Heathmont including 30-tree orchard (design is complete and implementation has just started)
- Full design and implementation management of comprehensive permaculture system on 15-acre rural site in South Gippsland (design well underway and mainframe water-harvesting earthworks and tree plantings to happen prior to Winter)
- Community garden and edible landscape design for 26-house ecovillage in Eltham (design process just beginning)
- Full-scale designs for suburban sites in Brunswick and Glen Iris (at stage of initial consultancy)
- Possible three-week teaching and foodforest establishment workshop in Chang Mai, Thailand (June 2008)
We're so busy at present we are struggling to find time to update this site, but hope to get more information up about some of our projects soon, including design diagrams and report outlines as a resource for others. Meantime, one step we are taking to deal with the demand is facilitating and encouraging up-and-coming designers to start their own consultancies to help take up some of the slack (we are also considering some workshops to help fast-track this process). It is a very exciting time and we feel like we are tasting the tip of a tidal wave of demand for permaculture design that is only going to grow and grow.
